One thing is undeniable in the DIY and design world, impudence ironmongery is back and recently I’m totally loving it on furniture. As a girl of the 80’s I admit shiny lacquered brass fixtures still assume’t appeal to me, but I am drawn to the golden glow of real or antiqued brass with its warmer patina. In the past two weeks, I’ve fixed up two pieces, one dresser and one campaign escritoire, and both had brass hardware I wanted to reuse.  One set of hardware was real brass, the other brazen plate, and both needed a good polish. Over the last year, I’ve also narrowed down two great substitutes for faking the patina with other hardware that you destitution to give a golden glow.  If you’re careful how to repeat the difference between real brazen and brass map, how to polish unlacquered brazen, or how to construct the anticipate of antique brass hardware, here’s how I do it. Real brass is an allay of cupric and zinc and if it’s not lacquered, will staid with exposure to air over time.  There are two methods I use to bring back the mellow antiqued patella, one is Brasso if I have it on hand and the other is natural lemon juice and salt paste mixture. But first, before you polish, you should know whether your hardware is kingly brass or impudence plate.  Here’s the simple way to inform the variance.  Take a family magnet and see if it will stick to the piece, if it won’t that means the hardware is real brazen, preference these campaign pulls. However, if the loadstone picks up the ironmongery, then it’s brass plated (with steel or iron as its base). Good old fashioned Brasso works well for cleaning off the tarnish, and I usually drain for about 20 to 30 minutes. With real brass, I use a clout or extra elegant harden wool to remove the tarnish. You can also use a mixture of salt and lemon verjuice as a natural burnish, use approximately ¼ cup of salt per squeeze of ½ bomb to make a paste. Either one works commanding on either impudence plate or real brass, impartial be sure to use a flexible rag or soft toothbrush with brass diagram and not steel wool, it can scratch the thin brass plating. Lemon juice is acid, so be sure to fully rinse and buff your brass hardware, and I’ve read that using a contracted olive oil on top will prolong the periods between polishing. I find brazen plated hardware is more stubborn for some reason and usually choose repeat soaks to bring it back to life but it can be done. But if your brass plate doesn’t come back to life because it’s too corroded or you penury to give it the patina of unlacquered brass, there are two products that will do just that. Rub N’ Buff is a waxy antacid finish that comes in several golden shades such as Gold Leaf (pictured), but also look for Antique Gold and European Gold.  Krylon’s ‘Gold Leaf’ is the best metallic gold spray paint I’ve found to date to mimic brass or give you a warm excellent glow on your hardware. As you can see, both the Rub n’ Buff and Gold Leaf spray paint are pretty dang inclose to the real dilute! What about you?  Have you regard the popularity of brass hardware on furniture lately?  Are you preference its resurgence?  Know any other natural formulas or products that are great for washing impudence?  Do share! .

Rated 5 out of 5 by lcd922 from Beautiful dresser I logical this for my daughter’s nursery. We had a glitch with the delivery service, but Land of Nod customer service was wonderful and refunded us our delivery fee. This is a really nice, solid piece that will grow with her for many years. The dresser is on the smaller side, which is perfect for us, as our nursery is tiny. I plan to use the top drawer to defend diapers/wipes/lotions, and to fill the other two drawers with clothes. A changing pad (we have the Keekaroo Peanut) fits perfectly on top. I looked at uniform campaign-style dressers on other place, but I preferred the ironmongery finish (as well as size and cost!) of Land of Nod’s. Highly recommend. Date published: 2015-08-26

Rated 3 out of 5 by Andy99 from The look for a lot less I bought two of these dressers for my daughter’s shared scope. One arrived besmirched; the other one lost one of its hardware pieces a couple days after use. I am foiled, but Land of Nod has been brilliant about remedying the case. Unfortunately, due to backorder, our dresser took 3 months to replace. These are decent dressers that consider great, so if you indigence the campaign dresser look but don’t want to pay too much for the trend, this is a great option. Date promulgate: 2015-05-29

I love this! And not exact because I have a dresser painted in Provence in my house already. I have a campaign nightstand that I need to paint sitting in my garage and I have been reluctant to use chalk portray because I thought the more matte finish wouldn’t work well with the pen. I thought it needed more gloss (like your wan desk). But at the same time, chalk paint is so easy to work with, I didn’t really want to deviate from what I’m now comfortable with. But this is beautiful. So do you recommend using Annie Sloan on a crusade piece?

Although I completed this campaign dresser project last midsummer, I somehow hadn’t posted about it yet. Why? Because I felt the after photo needed to be super cute and styled, like a real decor blogger would do. Except that the reason I bought this sturdy behemoth of a dresser in the first abode was because we needful a place to put our 165-pound bedroom TV. Yes, it’s a flat shelter, yea it’s high definition, but it sure as hell isn’t lightweight. But guess what? It was free, so I have nothing to complain about!
