Designed in an era when styles were growing increasingly heavy and ornate, Shaker furniture's lean lines and unembellished surfaces seem especially trite – even familiar – to contemporary eyes. Though technically 'country bedding,' Shaker part are so carefully crafted they consider not shaggy-hewn, but quite sophisticated. Designers such as Gustav Stickley, Charles Eames and George Nakashima acknowledged the influence of Shaker style on their work.
Known derisively as the Shaking Quakers for their frenzied dandle and traverse during religious benefit, the Believers (as they denominate themselves) preached that the path to salvation lay in hard fabric, abstention from unspiritual pleasures, and constant prayer. They also practiced celibacy and a cooperative lifestyle, one in which all property was jointly owned. When families joined a Shaker community, spouse parted from wives, and children lived separately from their parents. At its height, the Shaker evolution included some 6,000 members, living in 19 villages stretching from Maine to Indiana.
Many Shaker specialists consider 1820 to 1865 the 'correct era' of Shaker furniture. After that, the pieces began to evolve, growing more colorful and even reflective contemporaneous call. In these later works:

Can you build it?!?!Rating: The dresser is wonderful and really sturdy. The colors are very singular and anticipate very “industrial chic” as someone else had put it. Price erudite, it is a great deal compared to similar products. It has “craze” that are part of the in a bad way(predicate) look, so no reason to report it! The dresser arrives in 3 boxes and thats when the fun begins. Building it is a mission. It is a two person job (it says so on the box!) and will drive you crazy as the instructions are a weak confusing. You truly need to be a visual//spatial person to understand them.The item will fit but not quite right if you put them on funky, so it really is a meticulous, time destroying process.
